Childpage navigation
Approximately 80 doctoral students are working on their doctoral theses in one of the institute's research groups. Our institute offers state-of-the-art research facilities including chemical, microbiological, and physical laboratories, computing facilities, and access to central facilities and technology plattforms at the Department of Environmental Systems Sciences and ETH Zurich.
Besides conducting dissertation research, doctoral students earn a minimum of 12 credits (ECTS) through course work and other activities such as external short courses, organization of workshops, or presentations at international conferences.
IBP PhD Congress
A special highlight is the IBP PhD Congress, an annual event organized by doctoral students of IBP. More information is provided on the dedicated webpage: Link
Information about your doctorate at IBP
Current doctoral students can find more information about the onboarding process, the aptitude colloquium, and the defense under the corresponding tabs.
Please note that the information on this page is not legally binding and is provided for support purposes only. Please always check the information provided by D-USYS and ETH.
If you have any questions, please contact Marcel Müller.
You will receive a checklist for IBP newcomers. If you do not receive this, or if feel that you are missing important emails from IBP, please contact Marcel Müller.
- Your doctoral thesis supervisor is the main person responsible for your onboarding.
- There is an official welcome event for doctoral students at ETH.
There is no longer a list of suggested dates and chairs for the mandatory aptitude colloquium. Please organise the date, location, and chair yourself. Your group's administrative assistant may help you find a suitable room.
The chairperson does not have to be a full professor. Anyone who is admitted to the professorial conference of D-USYS may serve as chair, including assistant professors and adjunct professors. See the list of groups associated with IBP and the list of all professors at D-USYS.
There are no institute-specific rules for the aptitude colloquium. The rules of the department apply (see Factsheet).
