Doctorate
Approximately 80 doctoral students carry out their dissertation research in one of the institute's research groups. Our institute offers state-of-the-art research facilities including chemical, microbiological, and physical laboratories, computing facilities, and access to central facilities and technology plattforms at the Department of Environmental Systems Sciences and ETH Zurich.
Besides conducting dissertation research, doctoral students earn a minimum of 12 credits (ECTS) through course work and other activities such as external short courses, organization of workshops, or presentations at international conferences.
A special highlight is the IBP PhD Congress, an annual event organized by doctoral students of IBP.
The IBP PhD Congress is a unique platform for doctoral students of our institute to present and share their research, to build a network, and to interact with each other outside the normal day-to-day environment. The congress is geared toward doctoral students; however, master students who are closely collaborating with IBP doctoral students are also welcome to present their work. We encourage all doctoral students and interested master students to contribute a poster, and experienced doctoral students (3rd to 4th year) to contribute an oral presentation.
Attendance of the conference is mandatory for IBP doctoral students. Professors, supervisors, senior scientists, postdocs, technicians, and research assistants are highly encouraged to participate as well.
